Hello, and thanks for dropping by. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Steve Bauer and I am a graphic designer based in Northern New Jersey, a few minutes outside of NYC.
It's not easy being your own boss and navigating your own path. There are plenty of sharks in the waters who will overcharge you every step of the way.
With over a decade of experience in web and print design, my mission is to provide affordable branding, design and print services for those of you out there who decided to take a leap and follow your life’s passion.
Looking forward to working with you, and bringing your vision to life.
The Long Story.
I got my start doing graphic design in 2004 after I graduated from Montclair State University. I was tending bar on the weekends at the time, and was approached by a bar regular to make her a website. My business degree had a concentration in Information Services, and I had taken various web programming courses. I agreed to take the job, but quickly realized that while I was familiar with how to make a website function, I knew absolutely nothing about making a website look good. It was at that point that I delved into the world of Photoshop and discovered what has become my true passion in life.
After a rigorous, self-taught crash course, I completed the website. It was amateur at best, but it sparked an interest in me that has never died. I continued to explore, follow online tutorials, and constantly improve my skills. About a year later, with some confidence under my belt, I reached out to a friend who owned a thriving skateboard and clothing store in a booming neighborhood in Montclair, NJ. I offered to send him over some designs to get his thoughts. He loved what I sent, and thus began a very long relationship of creating graphics for the store.
My many years working for that shop taught me more than I could have ever learned in school. It expanded my skills into real-world applications, working directly with small and large format printers, and gaining the knowledge to properly move the visions in my head and on my computer screen into physically tangible things. During those years, I created apparel, stickers, print ads, skateboard graphics, CD & DVD packaging, and website graphics. My skills continued to grow all the time.
Sadly, the shop closed down about eight years later. I picked up freelance design jobs over the next couple years, but nothing that filled the design void in my life. In 2014, I decided to take matters into my own hands and founded a streetwear clothing brand called GRZLY (www.thatgrzly.com). I registered the business and became the owner, operator, designer, accountant, marketing team, sales team, and shipping department. A one man show.
My clothing brand jumped off pretty quickly with a big social media campaign. Within a few months, I was shipping orders all over the US and even a handful out to Europe. But as with anything in life, you live and learn, and there is a lot of trial and error. I ran into some struggles, and the brand is on a short hiatus while I streamline some of the business and production aspects. In the interim, I decided to form a creative branch to the brand, now known as GRZ Creative.
After seeing the struggles of starting my own business, I tailored the aim of GRZ Creative to become a professional branding service for other people starting their own businesses. To work within smaller budgets, and still offer the quality and detail of larger, more expensive design firms. My business is to make your business look good, so you can concentrate on doing what you do best.
